Work Experience 2022

Students gained hands-on experience in our 2022 work experience program

BlueZone Group was proud to mentor Jemima McKensey, a year 10 student from the Newcastle Grammar School, and our apprentices Callum Bakker and Logan Hodge, as part of our work experience program in June 2022.

At BlueZone we believe in supporting the next generation of STEM students with real experience in our field. The work experience program ran for one week and, with the guidance of our engineers and technicians, the students built, wired, and operated their own Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in our 250,000 L test tank.

The hands-on work that is conducted throughout the week for the Build Your Own ROV project, teaches electronics assembly, including the construction of a PVC frame, electrical soldering for the thrusters and control box, and adding the tether to the frame. At the end of the week, the students tested the buoyancy and operation of their ROV in our test tank.

During the week, the students experienced the regular activities of our Newcastle workshop and had the opportunity to see a Navy ROV being serviced and tested in the tank.

BlueZone is delighted to offer the opportunity for students to explore a career in the last frontier – the world’s ocean. Robotics enable discovery that has never been possible before in history, and future generations will benefit from the knowledge they can gain through this technology. With more than 80% of the oceans still unexplored, we are honoured to provide support and guidance for the next generation of ocean technologists through work experience.
