RS ORCA Multi-channel Passive Acoustic Recorder

BlueZone UVS is pleased to introduce to the Australian market the RS-ORCA Ace – a high specification, multi-channel passive acoustic recorder for capturing rich, broadband, underwater noise data.

RS-ORCA Ace is a 5 channel broadband recorder with on board noise processing up to 384 kHz sample rates. The RS-ORCA Ace base package includes:

  • Acetal pressure housing for deployment to 200 m max depth
  • 24 hour rechargeable lithium battery (97 watt hours)
  • 500 GB SSD, 256 GB SD card
  • Ethernet out for real-time raw and processed data

A Geospectrum broadband hydrophone (10 Hz to 150 kHz), dry Ethernet download cable, 10 m subsea Ethernet cable, carry case and TRAC configuration and analysis software are all included in the package.

RS-ORCA models for longer duration and deeper deployment are available with generally the same electronics and acoustic processing capabilities.

Ryan Mowat, Application Scientist with RS Aqua, said that there was a growing requirement for oil and gas pipeline inspections for carbon capture leak detection, “RS-ORCA can provide a solution for listening for and determining the location of leaking liquid / bubbles,” said Ryan “RS-ORCA can be integrated into an ROV to provide the ROV with the capability to listen for leaking bubbles.”

BlueZone Group CTO, Darren Burrowes, said that RS-ORCA was an example of the development of the Digital Ocean. Just as the digital revolution has transformed energy, manufacturing and many other areas, the Digital Ocean will see a movement towards ubiquitous digital sensing and processing in our coastlines, seas and deep oceans. “The RS-ORCA provides the capability to capture, record and process extremely rich underwater acoustic data sets, in real time,” said Darren, “This is a similar capability that we have provided for Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) with out DL25 EMAC https://bluezonegroup.com.au/product-catalogue/data-logger-products/dl25-adcp-extended-memory-and-control and something that our customers are increasingly demanding.”

The days of “deploy and forget” for ocean instruments are ending and more commonly we will see ocean data collected, processed and sent to shore in real time,”said Darren

RS ORCA Multi-channel Passive Acoustic Recorder
RS-ORCA is easy to use, deploy and configure, and is  flexible enough for almost any underwater acoustic measurement scenario. Applications include underwater noise characterisation, marine mammal studies, underwater detection and localisations.
