EverClean: Revolutionising Hull Cleaning with Robotic Precision
Hull cleaning just got smarter—meet EverClean, the robotic game-changer saving ships up to 20% in fuel costs while keeping divers out of harm’s way
BlueZone Group recently had the opportunity to try out GreenSea IQ’s superlative hull cleaning robot, EverClean and were blown away by its intuitive operating system and ease of deployment. Within an hour of unboxing the unit a crack team of BlueZoneGroup Engineers and Technicians had the hull cleaning robot in our 8x5m test tank, crawling along its inner walls with ease.
Powered by GreenSea IQ’s OPENSEA platform, navigating alongside and attaching to your vessel of choice is done with an Xbox controller and computer mouse, selecting between ROV and Crawler modes. Once in Crawler mode, EverClean is capable of obstacle detection, hull mapping and positioning.
EverClean uses a novel “attractor” mechanism to keep the ROV pressed against a ship’s hull. The innovative impellor creates a vortex strong enough to enable the ROV to crawl along the hull as though it were on dry ground. Through this non-magnetic attachment, sensitive equipment onboard the ship does not need to be powered down during a cleaning operation. Transiting on its specialised treads, EverClean avoids damaging hull coatings while providing enough pressure for the cleaning brushes to clean fouling up to FR20 or 30 depending on the brushes selected.
A long time-time partner of BlueZone Group, Sidus Solutions, provides HD cameras fore and aft to give exceptional clarity of the EverClean’s cleaning ability. The cameras are used to generate reports on each clean performed. A high resolution multibeam sonar from our trusted friends at Blueprint Subsea provides the operator with a birds’, or rather fish, eye view of the terrain in front of the ROV, helping to navigate safely and surely in the murky depths. The EverClean’s ability to operate as both ROV and Crawler mean it is able to perform visual inspections of any hull area, regardless of geometry.
GreenSea IQ has now developed the EverClean’s functionality to carry two 2.25MHz ultrasonic probes, allowing the system to measure hull plate thickness. Through BlueZone Group, GreenSea IQ is your one-stop-shop for hull inspection capability.
With the introduction of the EverClean comes a paradigm shift in hull cleaning, moving away from the episodic, diver-heavy status-quo to introduce a new, “always clean” philosophy which creates year-round increases in fuel efficiency and maximum speed. Regular of the EverClean system maintains a lower than FR20 fouling coverage across the majority of the hull, reducing the load and risk on diver crews and empowering them to focus on more meaningful tasks.
With the reduction in drag from regular hull cleaning, EverClean customers have reported up to 20% fuel savings per year. Add to this the reduction in expensive, diver cleaning operations, it’s clear the EverClean’s capacity to reduce operational costs per ship is immense.
BlueZone Group is delighted to be partnered with GreenSea IQ to bring EverClean, and the future of hull cleaning and inspection, to Australian waters. Keep an eye out for EverClean systems operating in a port near you.
