Creating Space for Conversation: Mental Health Matters at BlueZone
A Conversation Can Change a Life
R U OK Day is Australia’s National Day of Dedication to mental health and creating meaningful connections. It is held every year on the second Thursday in September. The day serves as a reminder to check in with one another. You don’t need to be an expert. Just a good listener, a caring friend, and someone willing to reach out- a conversation can change a life.
BlueZone Group have been enhancing our knowledge and understanding of mental health awareness through dedicated seminars and targeted training programs. Through these sessions, our team have learned invaluable knowledge on recognising early signs, cultivating supportive environments, and applying effective strategies to promote mental well-being in the workplace. Our company colours may be shades of blue, but the site was covered in shades of yellow to show our support; balloons and streamers decorating our offices to brighten the day.
This year for R U OK Day the BlueZone team came together to hold an office wide breakfast. Bacon and pancakes with 100% Canadian maple syrup kindly cooked by our engineers, fruit sliced and diced by sales, and our service superstars setting the scene for breaky. Truly a team effort that not only filled our bellies but also strengthened our connections, reminding us all of the importance of checking in and supporting one another every day.
With full bellies and a sense of connection, we were ready to join the R U OK? Day seminar hosted by NewPsych. Receiving guidance from these mental health professionals offered us valuable insights into recognising signs of distress, fostering meaningful conversations, and building a supportive workplace culture focused on well-being and care. The accompanied short video, tailored to mental health in trade industries highlighted the importance of reaching out and talking to someone, rather than supressing your feelings, contributing to breaking the stigma around mental health among men and within trades.
Here at BlueZone group, we strive to continue fostering a workplace culture where employees feel supported through workplace relationships as well as external support from NewPsych via the EAP program. By prioritising mental health and open communication, we aim to create an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to seek help when needed.
