Due to the extensive efforts of Rear Admiral Peter Briggs (Retd.) and the team from the Find AE-1 Organisation the wreck of submarine AE1 was located off the Duke of York Islands on 20 December 2017.  The project is now undertaking a scoping study for the preservation of the AE-1 and it is planned to deploy oceanographic sensors in the vicinity of the submarine.

BlueZone Group is very pleased to assist with the collection of oceanographic data through the loan of acoustic instruments including a Teledyne RDI Work Horse Sentinel 300 kHz Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP). Deployment of the instruments for will support understanding of the environment in which AE1 rests. A temperature and salinity measurement package will also be deployed.

BlueZone GM, Oceanographic & Hydrographic, Mark Hegarty, said that deployment of the ADCP using batteries would support current measurement at 20-minute intervals for up to one year in a water depth of approximately 350m.
