UVS Attends ADCPSs in Action
UVS provided a strong attendance at the “ADCPs in Action” User Conference. The conference was hosted by Teledyne RD Instruments from October 2 to 5, 2011 in San Diego, California. UVS CEO, Neil Hodges, was accompanied by Russell Priest and UVS CTO, Darren Burrowes for the three-day conference. They attended many user presentations and several training sessions.
The highlight of the conference was the release and training conducted for the Next Generation Sentinel V ADCP. This ADCP represents a quantum leap over the Workhorse ADCP. The new ADCP features a sophisticated and user-friendly interface implemented for the instrument. The training session was well attended and there was a great deal of interest and questions from the floor.
UVS again part-sponsored David Williams of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (Australia). Mr Willams presented an informative and entertaining presentation entitled “The Hydrodynamics of a Pearl Necklace”. David’s work was conducted in arduous conditions in the pearling region near to Broome in Western Australia and revealed many interesting facts about the water movements, researched using ADCPs, that affected pearl production.
Russell Priest commented that the ADCP in Action Conference was invaluable for updating knowledge of Teledyne ADCP products and applications. “UVS has many years’ experience in providing ADCPs for varied applications around Australia” said Russell. “It is always interesting to learn from other Teledyne representatives and to broaden and build our knowledge at UVS to better serve our customers”.
