At the 3rd ADCPs in Action in Australia conference and exhibition on the Gold Coast in May many delegates took the opportunity to witness at first hand the capabilities on the Teledyne Odom MB1 and the Teledyne Reson T20-P when demonstrated side-by-side.

UVS General Manager Oceanographic & Hydrographic, Mark Hegarty, said that the sonars were designed for different applications and choosing the right sonar for the job was the first step in getting a successful outcome on any hydrographic surveying task. “The MB1 is designed for ease of setup on any craft of opportunity”, said Mark, “With new options such as fully integrated GPS heading system built into the RTA and a TSS motion sensor built into the sonar head it provides a low-cost shallow-water multibeam echo sounder solution”.

In comparison, the T20-P is also suited to small survey platforms through to larger vessels, where portability is demanded, but provides superior performance. Mark notes that selection of sonar types can be compared to digital camera selection, “Low cost digital cameras can provide useful images with little training, however, they can never match the capabilities of a digital SLR camera with high quality optics and a trained user”. UVS offers the full range of Teledyne Odom and Teledyne Reson sonars and has the experience to assist you with selection of the right sonar for the job.
