Teledyne Odom MB1 MBES Integration into Wave Glider SV3
Teledyne Odom and Liquid Robotics International have demonstrated an Autonomous Survey using a Teledyne MB1 shallow-water multi-beam echo sounder integrated into an SV3 Wave Glider. The demonstration also included near real-time processing using CARIS.
Advantages of the autonomous survey include:
• Increased Safety (no surveyors in the field and reduced vessel count)
• Reduced Cost (Reduced fuel, victualling & personnel cost)
• Increased Efficiency (fewer surveyors per sonar)
The SV3 Wave Glider is the latest in the family of Wave Glider products produced by Liquid Robotics and features wave power for long mission durations with no fuel limitations. Onboard processing power enables in-situ processing of MBES data and real time communicators.
The Teledyne Odom MB1 integrated system features an integrated Sound Velocity Profiler, GPS/Heading and Motion Sensor resulting in a complete survey package embarked in the Wave Glider.
CARIS workflow completed onboard the Wave Glider included raw data conversion, tide correction, geo-referencing and creation of a BASE Surface.
The demonstration survey was conducted on the west coast of Hawaii with the survey monitored at the St Maarten IHO meeting. The demonstration showed the capability for reduced manpower, costs and risks for shallow water survey while providing an autonomous capacity that can be quickly and economically scaled.
