RiverPro On Tour

The Teledyne RD Instruments RiverPro received an enthusiastic response when it was shown at the Australian Hydrographic Association conference and Exhibition (AHA2014) at the ANZ Stadium in October. Delegates were very pleased to see the RiverPro had been specifically designed for Australian rivers with a depth range of 20cm to 25m that was ideally suited for local conditions.

Prior to the AHA 2014 harbour cruise the RiverPro capability was demonstrated in the Parramatta river at Ryde Wharf where more than 80 delegates attended to demonstration.

Following AHA2014 the RiverPro was toured around the nation with stops in Tasmania and Western Australia. Hening Huang, Asia Pacific Manager & Principal Hydraulic Engineer for Teledyne RDI provided comprehensive knowledge and detailed experience of river gauging applications using Teledyne products.

In Tasmania the RiverPro was deployed together with other instruments from the Teledyne RDI Water Resources product family including the StreamPro, RiverRay and Rio Grande ADCP. The trials were conducted on the outlet from a dam providing an ideal test scenario with a known and constant flow rate to perform comparison measurements on. The results were very impressive with all flow measurements within 2% of each other.

In Perth a two day ADCP training session was completed covering ADCP fundamentals including: Principle of ADCP measurement method; ADCP operating Modes and Introduction to ADCP Program Winriver II. After the lunch break Erik Wilson of UVS covered the basic inspection and testing of ADCP’s including: Intro to TRDI website for Technical Manuals and Firmware and Software; Using the RDI Tech Manuals and Testing with BBTalk and Winriver II. Practical sessions included ADCP Self tests; Local compass calibration and Pre deployment checks. On Day two Hening Huang introduced the RiverPro and RDI’s new QA/QC software Q-view. The data collected using the RiverPro in Sydney and Hobart was reviewed and discussed.
