Low profile miniaturised acoustic array for directional sensing

BlueZone has taken delivery of the low profile KraitArray™ which will be included in a development program for acoustic sensing using the SV3 Wave Glider Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV). The BlueZone engineering team completed an initial inspection of KraitArray™ before despatching it for the further test by partners Sonartech Atlas.

The KraitArray™ is a product family of low profile miniaturised acoustic arrays suitable for low speed towed or static applications. Systems Engineering & Assessment (SEA) have made use of their knowledge and experience of larger diameter arrays to develop this highly adaptable product that provides impressive performance with reduced power consumption, weight, drag and cost when compared with traditional line and towed arrays.

The ability to deploy low profile arrays from USVs enables a number of applications including:

  • Harbour surveillance and protection
  • Marine mammal monitoring
  • Torpedo defence systems
  • ASW
  • Environmental monitoring and vessel noise characterisation
  • Asset monitoring and protection
  • Condition monitoring

The KraitArray™ will be returned for further testing in the BlueZone Test Tank. Located in Newcastle, this test tank provides the capability for comprehensive in-water testing of ROVs and underwater equipment of all types. The tank includes viewing portholes to enable clear observation of underwater behaviour. A 1-tonne capacity crane provides the capability to lift test items into the tank.
