Innovative rapidCAST™ Automated Sound Velocity Profiling System
Innovative rapidCAST™ Automated Sound Velocity Profiling System
Teledyne Oceanscience’s new automated sound velocity profiling system rapidCAST™ has been supplied to world-leading geospatial company TerraSond Limited. According to TerraSond, the product was used in a major hydrographic project for the purpose of nautical chart updating.
UVS General Manager Oceanographic & Hydrographic, Mark Hegarty said that the complete rapidCAST™ system consisted of a Valeport fast sound velocity probe with Bluetooth data telemetry, an automatic remotely-operated compact deck winch with power supply, and a control software package for sound velocity cast management running on a PC connected to the deck equipment by cable.
The rapidCAST™ system enables underway conduct of sound velocity profiling, said Mark, “This innovative technology has the potential to save significant survey time as the ship does not have to be stopped to conduct a sound velocity profile”. The savings in survey time equate directly to savings in money for completion of surveys. 3. Davit arm and block
4. Deck control box
5. Remote E-Stop / communication module
6. Valeport rapidSV profiler with slow-fall (buoyant) or standard tail spools
