EdgeTech is a leading supplier of underwater technology solutions and sonar systems including side scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, bathymetry systems, AUV and ROV-based sonar systems, and customised solutions. Named in part to honour the late Dr. Edgerton, an MIT professor and marine instrumentation pioneer, EdgeTech has continued to see strong demand for all of their products and has increased their staff from 40 people to over 100 people in the past ten years. As you may remember after being part of EdgeTech for a number of years, but branded separately, ORE Offshore adopted the EdgeTech name in 2012 as well. The world-class ORE acoustic releases and USBL products now carry the EdgeTech name and are produced in the large Massachusetts, USA based facility where the sonars are produced.

EdgeTech has recently launched the 6205 Multi Phase Echosounder. The 6205 utilises EdgeTech’s next generation multiphase bathymetric technology to provide an enhanced and fully integrated, swath bathymetry and dual frequency side scan sonar system. The 6205 produces real-time, high resolution, three dimensional (3D) maps of the seafloor while providing co-registered simultaneous dual frequency side scan imagery. The 6205 uses ten receive element transducers and one discrete transmit element. The high number of channels enables superior rejection of multipath effects, reverberation and acoustic noise commonly encountered in the shallow water survey environment.

UVS has been a long term EdgeTech distributor and has completed many successful rentals of the EdgeTech 4125 side scan sonar mobilised from the UVS rental pool in Perth. EdgeTech’s 4125 Side Scan Sonar System was designed with both the Search & Recovery (SAR) and shallow water survey communities in mind. The 4125 utilizes EdgeTech’s Full Spectrum® CHIRP technology, which provides higher resolution imagery at ranges up to 50% greater than non CHIRP systems operating at the same frequency. Recently, UVS has also arranged to position an EdgeTech 3100 Portable Sub-bottom Profiler in our Newcastle office.

The 3100 is EdgeTech’s portable version of their highly successful sub-bottom profiler product line. The system utilizes EdgeTech’s Full Spectrum CHIRP technology which provides high resolution imagery of the sub-bottom structure at penetration up to 100m.

Additionally, UVS has supported EdgeTech in the proliferation of Acoustic Release equipment for programs such as the world-wide Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) where the long-life EdgeTech PORT MFE is the go-to mooring/ release solution.
