Cape Cod Confidential – Part 1
Cape Cod Confidential – Part 1
Many members of the ocean engineering community are aware that the Cape Cod area in Massachusetts, USA is a worldwide centre for ocean science and ocean engineering with companies and organisations clustered around the world renowned Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).
BlueZone CTO, Darren Burrowes, was recently able to visit a number of these organisations and see first-hand the laboratories where new products are developed and the manufacturing facilities producing products for BlueZone customers in Australia.
Teledyne Benthos at North Falmouth Benthos was founded in 1962 a few miles from the research facilities at WHOI. Together with sister companies Teledyne Webb Research and Teledyne Gavia, Benthos provides system solutions as part of the Teledyne Marine Systems group. The combined group of companies manufacture acoustic communication products, positioning solutions, remotely operated vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles, and profiling floats that work independently or together as networked undersea systems.
New developments at Teledyne Benthos include:
• R12K Acoustic Release. The R12K released at Oceanology in March 2014 has been very successful. Benthos is interested to work with select markets to provide demonstrator units of this new, highly advanced, release. If you are interested in supporting a demonstration program please contact BlueZone.
