BlueZone Showcasing Defence Capabilities at IODS
Navigating Security in the Indian Ocean: Insights from IODS 2024
The Indian Ocean Defence & Security Exposition held on the 24th – 26th July in Perth, WA, underscored the vital role of the Indian Ocean and the regional stability of Western Australian. The event addressed avenues for collaboration to build security across the Indian Ocean including the AUKUS partnership, the commencement of US nuclear submarine rotations through HMAS Stirling from 2027, and the essential role of WA’s critical minerals sector. These avenues strengthen the partnerships between the Australian, US and UK defence industry, whilst highlighting the importance of collaboration with regional partners such as Japan, India and counterparts across Southeast Asia.
Over the two days, the event brought together almost 3,000 people, making it the largest defence event in Western Australia’s history. Keynote speakers included Chiefs of Navy from Australia, and the US and the UK’s First Sea Lord, along with multiple state and federal government and opposition ministers.
BlueZone hosted their largest booth with the support of Martyn Grange and Jon Ang from Teledyne Marine. The equipment on display included a Teledyne Marine Slocum Glider, MetOcean Telematics’s NiKA, Greensea IQ’s Bayonet 250 AUGV, and SEABER’s YUCO-SCAN Micro-AUV. During the event, BlueZone was able to meet with existing partners and customers, while establishing new connections. The BlueZone Team was honoured to welcome Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force Rear Admiral Touri Sasaki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles and Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans Affairs Matt Keogh to the booth and to demonstrate our experience assisting to build and support defence capabilities.
