Focal Optical Monitoring System & Model 923 Slip Ring Sensor

Focal Optical Monitoring System & Model 923 Slip Ring Sensor

The Model 928 Optical Monitoring System (OMS) offers industry leading real-time performance monitoring of fiber-optic systems, consisting of multiple fiber-optic rotary joints, tethers, and umbilical cables. The OMS has been designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing Focal multiplexer and slip ring diagnostics to provide the end user with the capability to determine, monitor and predict the overall health of electro-optic systems.

The Model 923 Slip Ring Sensor (SRS) is a miniature, ruggedised, health monitoring and data logging system for Focal rotary products. When installed as an option in Focal’s slip rings, such as the Model 176 or larger units, the Model 923 slip ring sensor provides real-time access to diagnostic information as well as data storage for offloading at a later time.

The OMS and SRS go hand-in-hand to help reduce operating costs. The Slip Ring Sensor can interface directly into the Optical Monitoring System so the data feeds are streamed together and no converter is required. For some customer applications a topside rack can automatically collect data for transmission back to the factory from SRS and OMS to enable predictive maintenance and guard against mission failures or delays due to emergency repairs.

Model 923 Slip Ring Sensor provides real-time Slip Ring health monitoring of temperature, relative humidity, shock, rotation and other parameters.

The Model 928-OMS is a combination of a modern Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) with special software to provide advanced and simplified performance monitoring of multiple fiber-optic cables.
