This month were shining a light on DeepWater Buoyancy’s BTM‑AL50 Instrument Bottom Mounts—purpose‑built solutions designed for ADCP deployment in shallow ocean waters, rivers, coastal areas, and lakes. For projects where the size and remote recoverability of larger TRBM units (AL‑200 and AL‑500) aren’t required, the AL50 series delivers stability, versatility, and cost‑effective performance.

 

The BTM‑AL50 Bottom Mounts provide a stable platform for deploying ADCPs, current meters, and other oceanographic instruments directly on the seabed. Whether in shallow coastal waters or inland lakes, these mounts are engineered for long‑term durability and customisation.

• Robust Construction – Marine‑grade aluminium ensures strength and corrosion resistance.
• Flexible Design – Adaptable for single instruments or complex multi‑sensor arrays.
• 2‑Axis Gimbal – Precision‑machined to keep ADCPs secure and properly aligned.
• Counterweights – Optional system available for lighter instruments.
• Deployment Flexibility – Compatible with diver deployment, ROV handling, or over‑the‑side operations.
• Recovery Options – Originally diver‑recoverable but can be outfitted with Pop‑Up Buoy Recovery Systems for added convenience.

 

BTM-AL50 is offered in two configurations.

• BTM‑AL50‑A (Welded Unit): Traditional welded design, deployable by diver or lowered from small vessels. Easy access for battery changes and maintenance.
• BTM‑AL50‑B (Collapsible Unit): Shares the same robust design but collapses for ease of transport and reduced shipping costs. The pinned and bolted assembly makes setup quick and straightforward.

 

Users have increasingly applied the collapsible BTM‑AL50‑B in scenarios better suited to the welded version. In response, DeepWater Buoyancy engineers developed a retrofit brace kit. Once installed, the brace significantly increases rigidity, giving the collapsible unit strength comparable to the welded design—without sacrificing its transport advantages.
