Advancing Underwater Operations for Enhanced Security

HII have announced the latest sale of three REMUS 100s and five REMUS 300 UUVs to the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy (RN). This transaction is a significant milestone for the UK’s military capabilities in underwater exploration, countermine measures and surveillance programs. Over the past 20 years HII have supported the UK’s Defence, through the acquisition of REMUS 100, REMUS 300 and REMUS 600 UUVs for mine countermeasure operations.

The first two REMUS 100s purchased by the UK in 2001 are still in operation today, demonstrating the resilience and modernisation capabilities of HII’s UUVs. Duane Fotheringham, president of Mission Technologies’ Unmanned Systems business group, stated, “We are honoured to support the Royal Navy in their mission to maintain maritime security. The trust placed in our REMUS vehicles by the United Kingdom and other allies is a testament to the quality and reliability of our technology. We look forward to further strengthening our partnerships and contributing to global maritime safety.”

The REMUS 100s and REMUS 600s are known for their versatility and reliability, which enhance operational efficiency for a variety of maritime missions. The recent sale of these vehicles to the UK RN follows a history of successful collaborations between HII and other navies worldwide such as the U.S. Navy. To date, HII have sold over 600 UUVs to 30 countries worldwide, including 14 NATO member countries.
