Diving into Cutting-Edge Hydrographic Science and Technology

In April, the Australasian Hydrographic Society (AHS) hosted the four-day Hydrospatial 2024 Conference in Hobart, Tasmania. The conference theme “At the Edge” represented Tasmania’s location in the Southern Ocean, along with the cutting-edge science and technology that is employed in the Hydrospatial field.

Hydrospatial 2024 brought together experts from various maritime disciplines, including specialist hydrography, maritime transport, oceanography, research organizations, offshore exploration, environmental science, maritime heritage, defence, tourism, coastal development, ports and harbors, Law of the Sea, and government. The event served as a platform to explore the future of hydrography, showcasing emerging developments and techniques that will shape the industry in the years to come.

During the conference, attendees had the unique opportunity to tour the RSV Nuyina vessel, a state-of-the-art research and supply icebreaker operated by the Australian Antarctic Division. This exclusive ship tour provided insights into the vessel’s capabilities and its role in supporting hydrographic research and exploration in the challenging Antarctic environment.
