Lost Liberator Search to Resume

UVS customer Dion Marinis, the vice-president of the Broome Historical Society, has been happy to report that financial assistance under the Royalties for Regions program has been approved for the acquisition of equipment including a Tritech StarFish 452F Side-Scan Sonar.

The sonar will be used to resume the search for a lost WW2 Liberator aircraft. The vision is that a memorial will be constructed to honour the flight crew at Gantheaume Point was where the sole survivor Sgt. Melvin Donoho came ashore after a harrowing 36 hour swim over 73 years ago. The search team has already been successful in locating a missing RAAF aircraft as reported in The West Australian newspaper.

  

The Tritech StarFish 452F is an affordable high performance towed side scan sonar that produces spectacular images of the seabed. Measuring less than 15 inches long the StarFish sonar is small enough to be transported in a rucksack. Lightweight and quick to deploy, the 452F towed system is independent of the boat requiring no fixed installation which makes it easy to transport and operate from any vessel.
