3D Printing

BlueZone Group offers a high quality and rapid turnaround 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) service producing 3D printed parts for subsea and other harsh environment applications.

The ability to produce printed parts with the strength of metal can turbo-charge hardware engineering development for BlueZone customers.

Service and support tasks can also benefit from the use of 3D Printing. For example, a small item like a cable conductor spacer can hold up a cable moulding job when cables require separation for higher voltage applications. A cable conductor spacer can rapidly be produced in exact dimensions using 3D Printing.

Our Experience

Our 3D printing capability is based upon experience producing parts for BlueZone designs and for our customers in Defence, Offshore Oil & Gas and in other ocean applications.
Feedback from our work has been very good with customers very pleased with the 3D printed parts. “The parts printed from the Markforged Mark Two were the best I’d ever seen,” said one customer, “The parts were more flexible than I had anticipated, but as a positive, well suited to their application.”
Our experience shows that Onyx is a robust material that is very suitable for subsea and corrosive seawater conditions.

Materials

Printed products can be provided exclusively with Onyx, a unique printing material which incorporates the strength and low density of chopped carbon fibre and blends it with Nylon for ultimate strength and finish quality. Onyx yields stiff, strong, and accurate parts.

Already 1.4 times stronger and stiffer than ABS, Onyx can be reinforced with continuous fibre.

Onyx sets the bar for surface finish, chemical resistivity, and heat tolerance.
