CTO, Darren Burrowes, and Design Engineer, Josh Berry represented UVS at the Teledyne Marine Technology Workshop in San Diego in October. The event was bigger and better than ever with new Teledyne Marine companies joining with RD Instruments to provide an expanded workshop with multiple simultaneous tracks. The workshop still kept its casual and informative feel with plenty of time provided for networking and for discussions with exhibitors in the low-key and very interesting exhibition. A highlight of the new format was the “tips & tricks” session where both exhibitors and delegates shared tips for how to “get things done” in the ocean. This led to lively and debates with many contributions from the audience. There were plenty of on-water demos arranged right at the dockside of the Catamaran Hotel that made it easy to move between speaking sessions and demo sessions.

In the plenary session Teledyne announced creation of the Teledyne Marine Group with a new “one company” to better serve the Teledyne customer base world-wide. UVS represents many Teledyne Marine companies and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Teledyne Marine Group to provide Australian-based customers new solutions for the continuing challenges of the ocean, coastal seas and rivers.

CTO, Darren Burrowes presented in the “tips & tricks” session describing the development of the DL25 ADCP Extended Memory and Control device. Starting with collaboration between Josh Berry and Mark Randall of the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management for river applications in remote areas, the DL25 has now also found costal applications for situations where real time ADCP data is required such as in dredging applications The AD01 ADCP Legacy Power Adaptor also was of interest to many delegates who are acquiring Sentinel V ADCPs and who want to continue to make use of existing Workhorse battery packs for some applications.

Tours on the final day included Teledyne SeaBotix, RDI and Impulse factories all located in San Deigo.

The 2015 Teledyne Marine Technology Workshop was an outstanding success and an event not to be missed in 2017!
