Opening Doors to STEM: BlueZone Welcomes RTHS Students for Industry Exposure
BlueZone Showcases Engineering and Marine Science to Inspire Female Students
BlueZone welcomed students from Rutherford Technology High School (RTHS) for a site visit as part of their Women in STEM program. The program includes an Industry Exposure Plan which involves a series of coordinated visits led by accomplished women in STEM. These site visits provide an insight into real-world applications and highlight the endless possibilities available within STEM industries.
The BlueZone team prepared an immersive and hands-on experience for the students, showcasing the exciting possibilities of engineering, technology and marine science. During the visit, the students gained valuable insights into the practical applications of Remote and Autonomous Systems and how these systems can assist marine research along with the fundamentals of sonar imaging. These applications culminated in the opportunity to operate an ROV in the onsite test tank.
The RTHS Women in STEM program is designed to inspire and inform female students about the STEM industry. The RTHS Science Teacher Ms Jade Bassett actively engages the students with the Women in STEM program through meaningful projects and excursions. BlueZone participates in various STEM activities within the Hunter region and supports the future generations engagement with STEM opportunities. Hosting the students at BlueZone highlights the range of opportunities available within a niche market such as Remote & Autonomous Systems.
The Women in STEM program is an excellent chance for students to be exposed to the STEM industry and explore potential career pathways. The collaboration between RTHS, the Hunter Academy of STEM Excellence and BlueZone highlights the importance of industry exposure in inspiring and informing female students. BlueZone’s participation in various STEM activities within the Hunter region underscores the dedication to supporting and promoting engagement with STEM opportunities. The RTHS Women in STEM program not only broadens the student’s horizon, but also emphasises the diverse and rewarding career options available within the STEM industry.
