BlueZone Group at IODS: Advancing Maritime and Defence Capability
BlueZone Group recently attended the Indian Ocean Defence & Security (IODS) Conference and Exhibition, a premier forum bringing together defence, maritime, and security stakeholders from across the Indian Ocean region. The conference provides a vital platform for showcasing capability, strengthening partnerships, and addressing the evolving challenges of maritime security and regional stability. At IODS, BlueZone Group highlighted its expertise alongside key partners across military diving, undersea warfare, and military survey, reinforcing its role in delivering trusted, mission‑ready solutions for complex operational environments.
BlueZone Group delivered a standout presence at the Indian Ocean Defence & Security Conference 2026, showcasing a cohesive and capability-driven exhibit. With stand design by Brand Outlines, the display highlighted Australian defence capability across military diving, undersea warfare, military hydrographic survey, and in-water asset maintenance. The stand was purposefully structured to demonstrate not only best-in-class equipment from global OEM partners, but the in-country integration, support, and operational expertise that BlueZone brings to the Australian Defence Force and its industry partners.
A notable highlight on the booth was the JJ Closed-Circuit Rebreather (CCR) system.
But what exactly is a rebreather? Unlike traditional open-circuit scuba systems that expel exhaled gas into the surrounding water, a rebreather recycles the diver’s breathing gas in a closed loop. Carbon dioxide is removed via a scrubber, and oxygen is replenished to maintain a breathable mix, allowing for significantly longer dive durations, reduced gas consumption, and; critically for defence operations; minimal to no bubble signature. This “silent” capability is essential in tactical environments, enabling divers to remain undetected while conducting surveillance, reconnaissance, or intervention tasks.
The JJ-CCR represents a robust, commercially available platform, while its sister system, the Muro, takes this capability further with carbon-wrapped cylinders that produce no magnetic signature; an important attribute for EOD and sensitive operations. With consistent payload configurations, buoyancy characteristics, and diver ergonomics across both systems, the pairing offers an ideal training and operational pathway. Defence dive units can train operators on the more cost-effective JJ-CCR platform while maintaining a seamless transition to the mission-ready Muro system, ensuring operational readiness without compromise.
Also featured within the military diving zone was Aion Group’s Artemis diver propulsion range, including the ArtemisPro SX Nero and Artemis Elite systems; developed through collaboration with Blueprint Subsea and SUEX. Already in service within Australia, this capability significantly enhances diver mobility, endurance, and mission flexibility. By extending range and reducing physical fatigue, these diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs) enable operators to conduct longer-duration tasks with greater efficiency, whether undertaking search operations, underwater infrastructure inspection, or tactical deployment scenarios. The integration of advanced navigation, control, and propulsion systems ensures precise manoeuvring in complex and challenging underwater environments.
Blueprint Subsea’s ArtemisSAR system also drew strong interest throughout the event. This pole-mounted, rapidly deployable sonar system integrates real-time imaging sonar, camera, and GPS into a single, highly intuitive platform. Designed for use in low-visibility and high-risk environments, ArtemisSAR allows operators to conduct search and recovery operations from the surface, dramatically reducing the need to deploy divers into hazardous conditions. For first responders and defence teams alike, this translates into improved situational awareness, faster area coverage, and significantly enhanced safety outcomes. Its ability to keep divers out of the water for longer periods was a key point of discussion, reinforcing its value in both emergency response and operational planning scenarios.
The remote and autonomous systems section of the stand further demonstrated BlueZone Group’s strength in delivering advanced, integrated capability to Australian defence operators. Featuring leading OEM platforms such as HII’s REMUS autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and Greensea IQ’s EverClean hull cleaning robotic solution, the display emphasised the growing importance of uncrewed systems in maritime operations.
Together, these systems represent a step-change in how defence forces can approach undersea warfare, inspection, survey, and sustainment activities. Autonomous and remotely operated platforms enable persistent presence, data collection, and intervention without placing personnel at risk. For example, AUVs such as REMUS can undertake extended-duration survey and reconnaissance missions, collecting high-resolution seabed data critical to mine countermeasures and battlespace preparation. Inspection-class ROVs and robotic cleaning systems allow for efficient maintenance of naval assets, reducing vessel downtime and eliminating the need for diver intervention in routine or hazardous tasks.
Critically, the capability on display was not just about individual systems, but about how they are supported, integrated, and sustained within Australia. BlueZone Group’s in-country expertise ensures that defence operators have access to responsive technical support, training, and lifecycle management; turning advanced technology into reliable, mission-ready capability. In an increasingly complex maritime security environment, this combination of cutting-edge equipment and local support is essential to maintaining operational advantage.
BlueZone Group would like to thank our valued partners, event organisers, and everyone who took the time to visit our stand throughout the conference. The quality of conversations and shared perspectives reinforced the importance of collaboration in addressing today’s maritime and defence challenges. We look forward to continuing these discussions beyond the event and building on the connections made as we work together to support future capability and operational outcomes.
