BlueZone Congratulates CSIRO on the Arrival of RV Investigator
BlueZone Group Congratulates CSIRO on the Arrival of RV Investigator
BlueZone Congratulates CSIRO on the Welcome to Port of Australia’s new Marine National Facility ship RV Investigator. The Investigator will be used to expanded scientific capability of CSIRO to work on a number of projects including:
• Building understanding of the dominant role of the ocean in weather and climate variability,
• Increasing aquaculture productivity,
• Revolutionising fisheries science and management, and
• Providing a greater understanding of the changing dynamics of the ocean floor (such as the movement of tectonic plates, which can trigger tsunamis).
The RV Investigator integrates a Teledyne RDI Ocean Surveyor ADCP operating at 75kHz and 150kHz. The vessel-mounted Ocean Surveyor will enable collection of detailed maps of the distribution of water currents and suspended materials through the water column and along the Investigator’s path – at depths and resolutions previously considered unattainable.
As a leading subsea equipment sales, service and engineering company BlueZone has also supplied other equipment to support the CSIRO research capability including specialised handling equipment from General Oceanics and 17-inch glass flotation spheres and hard hats manufactured by Teledyne Benthos. The McLane Instrument Large Volume Water Transfer System (WTS-LV) will also be used in the Investigator. It is a large volume single-event sampler that collects suspended and dissolved particulate samples in situ into a 142mm membrane filter. The WTS-LV allows for a choice of pump size and filter porosity for a range of specimen collection. Collection targets include chlorophyll maximum, particulate trace metals, and phytoplankton.
